The last few weeks have been very exciting for ARS Ltd. In October Locus Consulting commissioned us to carry out evaluation trenching on a site to the west of Derby, which resulted in the discovery of a Roman Road.

The road originally ran between the Roman Forts at Little Chester (Derby) and Chesterton (Stoke-on-Trent). It was built by the military in the 1st Century AD and played a central role in maintaining communications near what was the northern frontier of the Roman empire at this time. Though the line of this road had been suspected for years the team from ARS Ltd. identified its exact position and established its level of preservation.
