Stunning Mesolithic Discovery

The structure remains

At Killerby Quarry in North Yorkshire we have recently discovered the incredible remains of Mesolithic timber structures, thought to be the remnants of teepee-like huts. The remains, which have been preserved in a layer of peat, consist of several timber poles, some more than 6m in length, which would have formed part of the frame of the structure. Also discovered within the hut are the remains of an in-situ fireplace.

Analysis of the remains are ongoing and will inform on the construction, use, and the environmental setting around this incredible find. Make sure to check back here regularly as we share more about this exciting discovery.
