The core part of this approach is ‘Carbon Calculator’, a system allowing the quantification and undertaking of comparative analysis of the carbon footprints associated with various archaeological methods. Using this calculator, it’s now possible to accurately measure the impact of these activities, along with that of heavy plant diesel, workforce travel, and the degradation of organic soil carbon that happens through excavation.
