We’re delighted to reveal our nomination for Current Archaeology’s Rescue Project of the Year 2025 for our project “Buried at Bodicote: Investigating Unusual Inhumations at an Iron Age Farmstead in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds”.
The nomination is for our archaeological excavations in Bodicote, just south of Banbury, where we were able to include ancient DNA and stable isotope work to understand the relationships of people buried in what had been storage pits, and we’re thrilled that the fascinating revelations at this site get the recognition they deserve.
If that wasn’t enough, our very own Clive Waddington has also been nominated for ‘Archaeologist of the Year’!

About our award-nominated Bodicote archaeological rescue project
In 2019-2020, excavations took place ahead of a housing development on the southern side of Bodicote, Oxfordshire. They revealed the remains of an Iron Age farmstead which illuminated life in this time on the edge of the Cotswolds, including the discovery of ten storage pits that had been repurposed as graves. Of course, this was not an uncommon practice for the period – but other aspects of the inhumations soon came to light that were rather more unusual!
