We’re returning to Cresswell Pele Tower, Northumberland, to carry out further archaeological investigations around the tower with the help of local volunteers from Monday 10th September. Following on from the success of last year’s dig, where we uncovered a stone wall foundation and cobbled floor pre-dating the 15th century pele tower, we’ll be opening new trenches in order to understand more about the tower’s history. This will include tracing more of the earlier wall and floor surface to establish the extent and possible function of this previously unrecorded pre-tower building.

We will be posting regular updates so please make sure to check our website regularly over the coming weeks. We’ll also be letting you know of the upcoming open days which will provide opportunities to visit the dig and look at some of the artefacts first hand.
