Sediment Analysis
A wealth of environmental and archaeological material is preserved within sediments. Information gained from sediment analysis can be used to gain insight into former environmental conditions and human impact on past landscapes. There is a diverse range of techniques for sediment description, collection, analysis and interpretation.
At ARS Ltd we have considerable knowledge in sediment analysis from open section stratigraphy to extensive experience in the operation of a large range of sediment coring equipment.
ARS Ltd provides a complete service that includes:
- Advice on sampling procedures and site visits
- Collection of sediment from open section sites with monolith tins
- Collection of subterraneous sediment in a closed chamber by a motor driven percussion corer (Cobra)
- Collection of sediment via manual coring, using Russian corers and open chamber gauge equipment
- Stratigraphic logging of sections and cores
- Fast production of detailed and publication-standard stratigraphic logs and their interpretation. The reports include high resolution digital photographs and a systematic description of the sedimentary material
- Advice on the potential for further analysis and dating of stratigraphic sequences
