Large-Scale Open Area Excavation
There are as many different scales of excavation as there are types of site to investigate, and each project will present its own distinct challenges. ARS Ltd have experience and capacity to take on all scale of excavation whether it be a single small trench or a surface strip covering tens of hectares.
The larger projects are normally termed 'open area' excavations and are usually required as part of strategic infrastructure projects. These may include archaeological excavation associated with mineral extraction, housing and commercial developments, airport expansion, road building programmes and infrastructure installation. Typically a 'strip and record' strategy is employed whereby all archaeological features are mapped and photographed but then features are excavated selectively to provide targetted information that will answer the research questions relating to the site.
