Archaeological Officers - Suffolk, Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Tyneside. Three month fixed term contracts that could become permanent for individuals who excel.

£19,000 pro rata

Archaeological Research Services Ltd are recruiting Archaeological Officers for work on a variety of project work around the UK including a large and exciting infrastructure project in Suffolk which will involve numerous excavations. Site assistants are required to undertake typical fieldwork duties under instruction from an Assistant Project Officer.

You will be required to have good team-working ability, enthusiasm and drive to complete tasks and contribute to the operational success of the project. Previous archaeological fieldwork experience is required. Experience gained through voluntary work will also be acceptable and we have space for a limited number of trainees.

A valid CSCS cards is required. If you do not have a CSCS card then we may be able to assist you in gaining an equivalent health and safety certificate – please speak to our Projects Manager for further information (Tel. 01629 814540).

Contracts will be field-based initially and offered on an initial 3 month fixed-term basis. It is probable that these contracts will be extended and some roles could become permanent for individuals who excel. Candidates are expected to have the following:

  • Degree level education in a relevant subject or demonstrable longstanding field archaeology experience
  • A current and valid CSCS card
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to drive company vehicles preferred
  • Good communication and team- working skills
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Awareness of health and safety good practice and commitment to safe working
  • CIfA membership will be an advantage

Archaeological Officer/Assistant Projects Officer - Tyneside and Bakewell Offices

£19,000 - £21,000 dependent on experience with generous benefits package

The post is tenable with immediate effect and, subject to successful completion of a 6 month probationary period, will become a permanent position thereafter.

Applications are invited from highly motivated and professional individuals suited to a corporate environment with ideally six month’s field experience (preferably more), a full driving license, own vehicle and a valid CSCS card. ‘Archaeological Officer’ is our competent archaeologist grade, although we would also welcome a more experienced Assistant Project Officer. We provide in-house training for all of our staff to support the professional development of our team.

You will have responsibility for helping to deliver a wide range of project work working out of our Tyneside or Bakewell office where you will be accountable to the Project Manager and then the Operations Manager. Although you will be attached to one of these offices you will be required from time to time to work elsewhere in the UK depending on where jobs are located and this will include occasional overnight stays. If applying for the higher grade then the more experience in report production and digital illustration the better. We are excited to hear from anyone who fulfils these criteria. We have a variety of projects coming on stream and are looking to recruit immediately. We are particularly keen to hear from individuals able to undertake watching briefs, evaluation trenching and excavation work.

You must have excellent fieldwork skills, English skills and IT skills and ideally have some experience in the use of CAD and/or GIS and the use of surveying instruments. Senior Consultant - Bakewell Office (Home-Based Worker also considered)

£25,000 - £30,000 dependent on experience with generous benefits package

Applications are invited from highly motivated and professional individuals suited to a corporate environment with at least a decade of experience in the heritage sector (preferably more), a full driving license, own vehicle and, ideally, a valid CSCS card. ‘Senior Consultant’ is one of our higher grade posts and will involve close-working with the Company’s Management Team and other members of our Consultancy Team. We provide in-house training for all of our staff to support the professional development of our team.

You will have responsibility for helping to delivering a wide range of consultancy work working out of our Bakewell HQ, or as a home-worker, where you will be accountable to the Company’s Projects Manager. Although you will be attached to the Bakewell office you will be required from time to time to travel elsewhere in the UK for site visits and meetings depending on where jobs are located and this will include occasional overnight stays.
